A Rose to Celebrate 100 Years of BBM
Our BBM Centenary Rose is thriving at Wild Rose Nursery in Chirnside Park, thanks to the dedication and expertise of some truly remarkable people.
On a recent visit to the nursery, we had the pleasure of meeting owner and 8th generation rose grower Reuben Nieuwesteeg, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the art and science of breeding and growing roses. Our Centenary Rose, a limited-edition beauty bred by Australia’s leading rose breeder Richard Walsh, is being lovingly propagated by Reuben - with just over 100 roses now available for sale.
We are incredibly grateful to both Richard and Reuben for generously donating their time, skills and resources to help BBM mark its centenary with this stunning floral tribute.
A special thank you also to former Little Brother Derek Elliott (Fairstar, 1965) and his wife Camilla, along with 2023 Global Footprints Horticulture Scholar Sarah Poynton and her partner Ben, who joined us for the visit. Sarah, who spent part of her scholarship with David Austin Roses in the UK, will be sharing her expert tips on preparing your garden beds soon—watch this space!
Proceeds support the Global Footprints Scholarship program, helping BBM’s legacy continue to grow for future generations.
